When my daughter, Laney, was stillborn at 36 weeks after a normal pregnancy, our world was shattered. I wanted to go to sleep and never wake up. Having an incredible support system and our faith in God were really the only two things that kept us going, that and the overwhelming determination to have another baby. I knew that trying to have another baby would never replace Laney and that I would also have to go through another pregnancy, this time entirely aware of what can go wrong.
This is one post that really resonated with me as an angel mama.
Pinterest was where I spent a lot of my time looking for other women’s loss stories.
I discovered the beautiful concept of pregnancy and infant loss artwork that brought me to tears. I found too, that reading quotes made me feel so seen, so I’m dedicating this post to beautiful artwork and some of my favorite quotes to bring awareness to the grief of pregnancy loss.
In the following weeks after her death, we had a memorial in our backyard with our closest friends and family and it was the most surreal experience. Child loss is so unnatural and I felt like everyone was uncomfortable to be in our presence. I felt so alone, as I didn’t know anyone personally who had lost a baby to stillbirth. Later on I had women that I had known for years tell me their stories of loss, which brought me a sense of relief knowing that if they could make it through the pain of losing a child, so could I.
“You may not be by my side, but oh how deeply you’re within my soul.”
“There is no footprint too small that it cannot leave an imprint on this world.”
“Missing my child is not me living in the past, it’s me loving my child in the present.”
If you’re looking for ways to support a loved one that’s experiencing pregnancy or infant loss, head over here. Pictures and quotes like these brought me comfort in the hardest days and even now, 4.5 years later I find solace in them. Often times my heart doesn’t know how to find the words to describe what I’m feeling, so when I come across beautiful poems and quotes like these, it’s like they’re speaking directly to my heart.
